The possible impact on land, vegetation, towns, cities and people if the sea level rises due to global warming.
a)Low lying areas of the coastal belt will inundated with water, causing damage to the houses, industries and crops.
b)Islands could sink and disappear
c)Salinity of the seawater will drop when fresh water from the melted ice caps drain into the ocean.
d)Water levels in rivers will increase and cause flooding.
e)River water will mix with salt water from the ocean making it unsafe for human consumption.
f)Ocean water temperatures will change with the melting of the ice caps.
g)Marine life, like fish and even corals, will have to migrate – to find waters that are more suitable or perish.
h)Erosion of land at coastal areas.
i)Topography of the country will change and the country’s size can decrease.
j)Millions will have to be spent on mitigation works like constructing bunds along the coastline.
